Frequently Asked Questions

Our Clothing

Linen is our primary fabric in our garments. It is a textile made out of flax, a natural plant fiber.

Linen is natural and does not harm the planet during its creation; and as a consequence, when we wash it, we don’t leave behind toxic chemicals in our water systems. Linen is laborious to manufacture, but the fiber is very strong, absorbent, and dries faster than cotton. Garments made of linen are valued for their exceptional coolness and freshness in hot and humid weather.

The method of producing linen fabric from the flax plant uses far less water than it does to produce the same amount of cotton. This makes it a more sustainable option. Fewer pesticides are used to grow flax than in cotton growing, and linen fibers can be processed without the use of chemicals.

We recommend hand washing in cold water or machine wash on a cold gentle cycle. Afterwards, lay piece flat to air dry.

We always recommend taking your garment to your preferred seamstress for repairs.

Our Jewelry

As of December 2020, we started making all our productions with recycled metals.

All our chains are gold filled. Gold filled jewelry is the latest introduction to the jewelry market and indicated that the piece has an overall higher amount of gold (≥5%) that is bonded to sterling silver. Since gold prices have gone up, the cost of solid gold jewelry can be very high. Gold filled jewelry is an accessible alternative, while giving little up in quality. If you care for it properly, it will last long.

Sterling Silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. We plate our silver jewelry in rhodium, which gives it extra shine and durability. Rhodium is one of the more costly precious metals due to its rarity.

Vermeil is a thick layer of high-quality 18k solid gold over sterling silver, which gives the pieces their long lasting color. We use 18k gold that is 2.5 microns thick, as required by the Federal Trade Commission to classify vermeil, layered over 925 sterling silver.

As the most malleable of all metals, gold makes for an ideal material when creating fine jewelry. 14k gold is a mixture consisting primarily of gold (58.3%), blended with durable metals such as zinc, nickel and copper along with a rhodium plating. Gold by itself is relatively soft, so the alloy metals strengthen the composition. Having high percentage of gold allows it to last a lifetime with minimal care.

Gold plated jewelry is a brass, copper, or low-end metal electroplated with a layer of gold. It doesn’t require any minimum karat weight or thickness. A 14k piece will have a lighter yellow, while an 18k piece will have a stronger, darker yellow color.

Vermeil refers to high quality (pure or sterling) silver that is plated with a layer of gold that is at least 2.5 microns thick, as per the Federal Trade Comission's regulations.

Unlike vermeil and gold plated jewelry, gold filled jewelry has a much thicker layer of gold over the base metal. This makes a big difference in terms of the jewelry’s ability to resist wear and tear long term.

As vermeil jewelry is composed of two precious metals (gold and silver), it’s usually thought of as being closer to fine jewelry and tends to fall under the category “demi-fine.” The higher the karat weight and thickness of the gold layer, the more expensive and valuable the piece will usually be.

Vermeil is 18k gold over high-quality sterling silver 925. Over time, it may tarnish due to the reaction of oxygen with the base metal (sterling silver).

Pure silver is entirely hypoallergenic, but is often too soft to use in jewellery. This is why sterling silver is popular for jewelry, as it contains 7.5% of other alloys. Sterling silver uses copper, another hypoallergenic metal, as its alloy. With both metals combining, sterling silver 925 is perfect for earrings and rings.

Hypoallergenic refers to any product that should not trigger an allergic reaction.

The best way to care for your jewelry is to store them at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, and ideally somewhere with low humidity.

We also recommend cleaning and polishing the piece every couple of weeks to maintain its shine, and taking it off while:

  • swimming, showering, or washing your hands
  • applying lotions, perfumes, or oils
  • cleaning, especially if using harsh chemicals

If you live on the island, you can drop your piece off at the store during our store hours.

If you live in another country, email us as customerservice@munsthebrand.com and we'll be happy to help!

Cost is decided on a case by case basis.
